Committees
Much of the association's work happens in committee. These are the ones currently active or proposed, and what each has taken on.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee will strengthen HACA's financial sustainability by establishing disciplined budgeting, consistent financial oversight, and transparent reporting practices.
The Committee develops an annual budget for Board approval, monitors financial performance throughout the year, and provides quarterly and annual reports that support informed decision-making, accountability, and trust among the Board, staff, members, and community stakeholders.
What the committee does
- Budget development. Prepare an annual budget for Board review and approval that reflects HACA's priorities, expected revenue, operating needs, reserves, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Financial oversight. Monitor income, expenses, cash flow, reserves, and budget variances throughout the year to identify risks, trends, and opportunities for corrective action.
- Reporting and transparency. Provide clear quarterly and annual financial reports to the Board and communicate key financial information in a timely, understandable, and accountable manner.
- Policy and internal controls. Recommend financial policies, procedures, and safeguards that promote responsible stewardship, compliance, transparency, and trust.
- Board support. Advise the Board on financial decisions, funding priorities, and issues requiring approval or strategic direction.
Quarterly reporting
At the close of each quarter the Committee reviews actual revenue and expenses against the approved budget, identifies significant variances, and confirms that financial records are complete and accurate. It then prepares a report for the Board covering financial position, budget performance, cash flow, key risks and recommended actions.
After the Board has reviewed it, any approved follow-up items are tracked by the Committee, so that corrections happen promptly and visibly.
Community Market Committee Proposed
A committee to support the development and ongoing success of the Moho Community Market as a safe, welcoming, community-centered gathering place.
The market is intended to bring neighbors together, showcase local artisans and vendors, and create opportunities for residents to connect while celebrating the products, talents, and character of Hawaiian Acres. As interest grows, a dedicated committee would provide the structure and continuity that successful market operations need.
Proposed scope
- Develop and recommend market guidelines for Board review and approval.
- Maintain vendor contact information and support vendor communications.
- Recommend an operating budget and identify basic resource needs.
- Coordinate promotional efforts, including social media updates and announcements on this website.
- Support market-day organization, volunteer coordination, and general communication with participants.
- Provide periodic updates to the Board on market activity, needs, and recommendations.
First steps, once approved
- Identify committee members and designate a lead or liaison to the Board.
- Develop draft market guidelines for Board review.
- Create a vendor interest and contact list.
- Prepare an initial budget estimate for supplies, signage, promotion and other basic needs.
- Establish communication channels for vendors, residents and volunteers.
- Present recommendations and updates to the Board on a regular basis.
Status. The Community Market Committee has been proposed to the Board, which is asked to approve its formation and authorize it to begin drafting market guidelines, budget recommendations, vendor communication procedures and promotional plans. This page will be updated once the Board has voted.
Other standing committees
Three more committees report to the Board at each meeting. Their leads are taken from the August 2026 board meeting agenda; fuller descriptions can be added here as each committee supplies one.
- Firefighters — Abraham Antonio. See the firefighters page.
- Neighborhood Watch — Aaron Truitt. See the neighborhood watch page.
- Building Committee — reports on community center options and progress on the Food Hub build. Lead not listed on the August agenda.
