Building Our Community Center
In February 2023, our community center was destroyed by fire. While some time has passed, we still have $230,000 in insurance funds available for rebuilding.
Initially, we planned to construct a multi-use facility that would have included the community center and a certified kitchen, but we have to adjust our approach to ensure that the grant funds for the kitchen are utilized by the August 2026 deadline.
Our revised plan is to construct a standalone community center in the recently cleared area and the food hub containers will be placed on the concrete slab, where the old community center was located. The work being completed through the commercial kitchen grant will help build momentum for the long-awaited community center. Portions of the grant are directly funding shared infrastructure—grading, gravel, parking, and architect/permitting—that will serve the community center long-term and help reduce future costs.
We are asking community members with skills in planning, construction, and public relations to please sign up to volunteer. We will also be needing help with landscaping and planting agricultural crops. Please let us know if you can help. Email: om@hawaiianacres.org. Mahalo!
A traditional blessing of the land led by Kahu Kimo Peleiholani-Blankenfeld was held on June 21 to honor the community’s connection with the land and recognize the importance of being good stewards for future generations.

A 1-acre area was cleared for the new community center.

Approved Site Plan
On April 8th the Hawaiian Acres Community Association received plan approval for the community center and farmers' market.

The options, below have been presented to the Hawaiian Acres Community Association Board for consideration.
Option A
Modified Argus 2-2-2
Shell-only 28x60 foot Argus 2-2-2 (1680 sq ft, 24x28 lanai)

Option B
The SABS (Saebi Alternative Building System) is an innovative construction method using Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam panels coated with a specialized, patented cement mix called SABSCRETE. It creates highly durable, energy-efficient, fireproof, and termite-proof homes that can withstand 260+ mph winds and 9.0 magnitude earthquakes. The permitting process for a SABS structure would be minimal.
Come Hither Model
The "come hither model" could be done in phases, starting with the restrooms and offices, and then each wing can be built with either gravel or concrete flooring.
